Beyond the seven mountains and the seven rivers, far to the north of Palmovka, lives Margaret I of Denmark. She is a strong and capable ruler, for she instigated the so-called Kalmar Union (those curious should open wikipedia) and made her nephew her legitimate successor. But life is not a fairy tale...
Charlotte Sieling, one of Denmark's most acclaimed directors, is behind the impressive 2021 film. It tells the story of one of the most powerful women in European history, ruler of Denmark, regent of Norway and Sweden, who was forced to play an intractable battle on the political chessboard of the Middle Ages. The union of the countries, united in a personal union, is plagued by enemies, and Margrete contemplates the marriage of her adopted son Erik and the English princess Philippa, daughter of King Henry IV.
